Blog Update 9th August - Okoa Fjord

August 12, 2014

We had a great trip up the Okoa fjord with its huge rockwalls either side and was able to get a good look at the glacier.  The weather closed in so we anchored off a gulley where there was shallower water, torrential rain overnight created lots of waterfalls and our gulley became swollen and at about 2am we could hear the sound of rolling stones just away from the boat and concerned about the large hanging glacier some distance above us  I decided to up anchor and find a safer spot. It would have been somewhat ironic for a mountaineer to be avalanched in his boat!
