We rounded Point Barrow at 12.30UT in 30kt winds and big breaking seas. Gybing the boat in these conditions took some care but went without any hiccups and were broad reaching south in 25kt winds with 8ft seas and hoped to get some protection from the winds as we close the coast.
As the seas eased and the wind dropped to under 20kts, we went to full sail and had a great run down the coast until late evening when the wind died and in came the fog reducing our speed to under 6 kts. We have now travelled over 1,250nm since leaving Cambridge Bay and have the last of the ice obstacles behind us. Our next target is Nome, some 400nm ahead where we will stop to rest and refuel.
