Alaska is blessed with snow capped mountains, many rising straight from the sea...and when the weather clears you can actually see them! So we were lucky to have a spell of fine weather as we sailed by the giant Mount St Elias that has the distinction at 18,000ft of having the greatest height gain when compared to distance from the sea. (less than 10 miles.)

 The overnight journey down from Cordova was not without its moments, a broken mainsail halyard when beam reaching at 10kts in 20kt north westerlies created a few problems and the lack of autopilot meant that we had to hand steer for the 36 hour journey down to Yakutat
