A current Topic

Sailors are used to capricious winds but we can normally rely on the tides and currents being reasonably accurately tabled. However, Alaska's Inside Passages are notorious for their rip tides and currents, the narrow channels between steeply wooded islands are a law unto themselves and despite having the latest tide tables and current charts on board it has been the exception rather than the rule that we have benefited from a following current.

Despite spending hours trying to work out the best time to leave our anchorage or mooring and trying to estimate where we should be at each key stage of the journey, little has gone according to plan. I should have known having raised the subject with a local sailor and getting only a wry smile in return!
