With two long passages ahead of us and as always work to be done to get the boat ready, there was no time to explore Ecuador so we had to content ourselves with looking around La Libertad and Salinas as we provisioned the boat.
There were excellent supermarkets but it is the local fresh produce markets that are of most interest.
As well as an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables there was a large fish market selling all kinds of fish and seafood. Many of the species were new to us as was the way of preparing them for sale.
These crabs were still very much alive.
Scattered around the markets were many food stalls selling cheap local food. We chose one at random and ate a chickn and veg soup followed by Chicken, Rice and Plantains.
The owners had trouble with our English and almost non existent Spanish.
