Terje and I had visited Port Lockroy with Pelagic in 2007 and we had motored through the narrown, berg filled channels from Waterboat Point in good weather with great views all around.
En route we had more encounters with Humpback Whales and countless Penguins.
The anchorage at Lockroy is large and secure but I spent over 3 hours during the night on ice watch as brash and bergy bits as large as range Rovers and 20 times as heavy bumped against the hull.
The following morning we awoke to clear blue skies and no wind with the peaks of Wienke Island standing out against the blue sky.
The original idea was to stay for a second night but with Cape Reynard and the Lemaire Channel just south of us the opportunity to sail through this ice choked narrow passaage in good light was too good to miss.
